Profile

At the moment I'm involved in research about e-learning and Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs).

A Qualified Teacher with experience of both Primary and Secondary Education, I'm also an experienced Analyst Programmer. I recently combined both these interests by achieving a distinction for an MSc in Technology for Teaching and Learning (Multimedia). So here's some examples of my work....

The demos are wmv files of less than 8,000KB each. They will open in Windows Media Player. If you don't have this it's free to download (button on left).

...in database development

I've worked with a hierarchical database using DBQ and with an Oracle relational database using SQL. I've also studied database design. The demo shows a database application I developed for a small business using Access. If you'd like an overview why not have a look?

...in e-learning

I have developed e-learning resources. The demo illustrates one to teach primary school children about scientific classification and the other aimed at students about the use of search engines. They were developed in Authorware and Director as part of the MSc course.

...in website development

I have produced a website for a charitable organisation.

As well as studying website design, I produced a website for the MSc course, designed to hypothetically represent the University's MSc courses in Computing and including elements of Flash and video.

I also have programming skills in COBOL, DCL, BASIC and JAVA and experience of the complete lifecycle of application development.

...and what about Education?

Having worked as a History teacher, I still love the past despite my interest in modern technology! Much of my research has focused on educational issues in ICT e.g. looking at the effect of ICT on the role of the teacher and how ICT can be used to help children with dyspraxia.
